Reoccurrence of kidney cancer

I'm a 68yr old male that was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2014 that was confined to the left kidney and had it removed by keyhole surgery. Since then I have been clear for 7 years and monitored each year with scans or Xrays. In 2021 a scan showed a small nodule in my left top lobe of my lung which was again removed by surgery. Now in February 2024 just got the bad news 2 more small nodules in both lungs have been found.

I am to be referred for an oncology for review and treatment probably immunotherapy. I am naturally very worried and getting depressed after reading up on Google about this. Does anyone have similar experiences and advice that can reassure me for what happens next. Thanks

I'm sorry to read about your situation, it sounds like you've been through a lot with your health so it's only natural that you're concerned.

Hearing others' experiences and coping strategies might help ease your worries and I hope you'll find that here with us. In the meantime, try to keep busy and far from Google, as it usually makes things worse.

If you find yourself too bothered though and feel like asking someone with a medical background some questions, feel free to ring our team of nurses. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040

Remember, each person's experience is unique. Trust in your healthcare team and the treatment plan they recommend. Take things one step at a time and remember you're not alone.

    Wishing you strength,.

  • Thanks for your valued reply Renata, it's really appreciated. I got my letter from my Urology consultant detailing what we discussed about the two new nodules that have shown in my lungs and awaiting an appointment to see a thoracic oncologist to discuss treatments.

I have been busy trying to sort out things to help my wife for the future if things deteriorate in my health after a neighbour of mine died from bladder cancer a few months ago and his wife was left in the lurch having to cope with everything on her own.

I know I have to be positive and this is helping. I will update my post after my appointment.
