Cryospray/Cryosurgery for Oesophageal cancer

Hello. I was diagnosed with cT3N0M0 oesophageal cancer in September 2023. I underwent 6 sessions of chemotherapy and 23 of radiotherapy a the tumour shrank over 50%. I declined surgery. I have been researching Cryospray treatment but it seems that it is only available  in the USA. However, it is incredibly difficult trying to get information from hospitals without a doctors referral. Does anyone have experience with Cryospray treatment or Cryosurgery? I don’t mind if I have to pay privately or if I have to travel for treatment.

  • Hello Vandon,

Thank you for sharing your story. Wow it's impressive that the tumour shrank more than 50% after your sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, that's excellent news! Cryotherapy also called cryosurgery uses extreme cold to destroy cancer cells and our website mentions it being used for cervical cells and skin cancer but doesn't list oesophageal cancer which might well be because, as you pointed out, it is only available in the USA which may make it difficult for you to find information about it here.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had cryotherapy treatment and that they will have some good tips for you based on their personal experiences. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call and talk things through with them.

    Best wishes,

  • Just an update. Cryosurgery is not a possibility. Have had responses from two hospitals, one in Istanbul and the other in Malaga, This treatment would damage the oesophagus but the spray treatment via endoscopy is less invasive. Only available in the USA at present ??

    would appreciate any imput.

  • I expect this means you have no information.

  • Hello Vandon

I'm sorry to hear that you've not had any further positive news about the availability of the treatment that you're exploring.

As Moderator Lucie mentioned in her previous post, you might want to give our team of nurses a call to see if they have any information that they can share with you. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
