Ovarian cancer diagnosis 2 days ago

Hi - not sure how to start.

2 days ago I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I am in complete shock I called 111 after having a headache constantly for 3 weeks and was sent to a&e and then sent off home with antibiotics for a sinus infection. 2 days later I was called back for more tests and felt so much worse. I was admitted into hospital and had all the scans and tests and told there was a large tumour on my ovary. I am only 31 and have never had any issues with my overies or periods or anything. there is no history of this in the family.

i am really struggling to take this in. my appetite over the last few weeks has already gone. i cant sleep, i am in a lot of pain. i am completely terrified and as a self confessed workaholic i am struggling already out of routine. i am waiting now to be told my treatment plan.

i dont know what to do to look after myself, what food can i eat? can i have sugar in my tea ? how can i keep active when i can barely move due to bloating

thanks in advance

  • Ps forgot to add there is also parts of it in my stomach lining

  • Hi bb_1992

I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed for OC, I too  have OC since 2019. It is such devastating news to hear And shock... Please take your time to adjust, it is a huge thing and commitment to all your appointments with hospital. When I first diagnosed, I needed to cancel the most of my works ( I am a freelancer), and it was hard. But I needed to focus on myself, like you, I was weak, and very poorly. I used to go to toilet every 30mins or so during nights, painful bloating tummy, insomnia, night sweat and chills etc...

I am sure your oncologist has good plans. Being active is challenging but  please be kind to yourself, take it slow, have a rest as many as you need if you go for walks for example... In terms of food, when I first diagnosed, I ate anything, I needed energy... I did take lots of good protein though.. but I am sure if you have a chat with your consultant, they can refer to dietician or support nurse for advice.

I am on this Ovacome forum, which I find very useful too. We all have OC and everyone is friendly.

    Sending you healing energy
