Breast cancer in pleura

After having breast cancer 22 years ago, I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer a few weeks ago. I got my scan results this morning and have been told I have a small area of breast cancer in the pleura on my right side. Obviously I've been googling and from what I've read the outcome doesn't look good. It's really worrying me.

I also have spread in my lymph system and possible my spine. I'll find out on Monday if the cancer is hormone sensitive.

Anyone out there with the same worries and fears?

  • Hello ShirleyA

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and that there's an area of concern in the pleura. It's understandable that you have questions and are feeling worried about what this may mean for you.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult and often people will turn to the internet hoping to find answers. Unfortunately what happens most often is that people are left feeling more worried by what they find. If you can avoid searching the internet this can help with managing your anxiety. You might find it helpful to write down a list of the questions and concerns you have ahead of your appointment on Monday. Hopefully the team will be able to give you some answers and reassurance.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

Keep in touch ShirleyA and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
