  • Hello Dawn1801

I know that we've had members post here on the forum who have had reconstruction using implants. If you use the forum search function at the top of the page to look for the terms "reconstruction" and/or "implants" you'll find lots of posts where this is mentioned.

We have some information about breast reconstruction on our website and Breast Cancer Now also has some useful information.

If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Sending you my best wishes for your surgery.

  • Hello Dawnw, hope you are ok .I had bilateral mastectomies, didn’t go for reconstructive surgery straight ,as they weren’t sure whether I was going to have radiotherapy as well .At the time I was quite happy to be flat .Recovery after surgery was fairly quick ,did all my exercises too and got full movement in both arms .I had lymphclearance a month later and that was fine . After chemotherapy, which also went well no major side effects ,I decided to have reconstructive surgery .I had been put on waiting from the beginning as I was not sure which way I would go . I decided on the silicone as I didn’t fancy the longer recovery with the diep flap . Many on this forum have gone for that one and will probably be in touch too. I have a farm and feel I can’t be out of action for that length of time . I think it’s a very personal decision any way . At the moment I have chest expanders, this hasn’t been painful and I am happy with result .Will be having the silicone in May ,only two weeks of not doing anything ,and normal life begins . Have a chat with breastnurses and see how you feel too . Good luck and best wishes xxx
