When can I stop worrying?

Last year, following a routine mammogram,  I was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts.  After numerous scans etc - underwent mastectomy of left breast and lumpectomy on right.  Then had radiotherapy and now on hormone drug for 5 years. Apparently,  lymph nodes clear. I should feel lucky - after all it got caught early enough to be treated.  So why am I now turning into a hypochondriac? I worry about every strange pain or ache - my doctor has suggested blood tests as I am so concerned.  I don't want to feel like this. This is really not like me and I so want to just be me again. Feeling so low a lot of the time.

  • This is a completely normal reaction . You have been through so much over the past year , it’s a life threatening condition and your whole life has been turned upside down . It’s often when it’s “all over” that it really hits you . Please ring one of the helplines or better still ring Maggie’s and make an appointment to go in and talk to someone . Alternatively speak to your Gp about how you feel x.

Thank-you for responding- what is 'Maggie's'?

As for my doctors surgery - undergone a lot of change and I haven't yet seen a doctor who has been any help.

Maggie’s is a national charity that helps anyone affected by cancer . They can offer practical and emotional support . They are usually attached to a hospital . You can google it and find out where your nearest centre is. There are also “ Someone like me” through Breast Cancer Now where they put you in touch with someone who has been through what you have . I’m also on Letrozole and know what you mean about the side effects , they are awful !
