Radiotherapy for anal cancer

I have had 2 different types of chemo, neither agreed with me. My oncologist has ruled out chemo for me

I had an emergency colostomy done in September as My tumour is in my anus, it was getting to a point where I couldn't poo, hence why it was done.

My oncologist is now recommending that I have radiotherapy on the tumour. But I'm scared, I've heard that it can seriously burn your skin, I don't want to get to a point where I am unable to sit comfortably.

Has anyone else had radiotherapy on a tumour in their anus and what experience did you have?

  • Hi Deblou,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you have been experiencing difficulties. Firstly, do be sure to discuss treatment options with your doctor so that you can be as informed as possible about any potential side effects.

You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Otherwise, if others here have similar experience or any thoughts then hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
