Previous stage 1A melanoma and now raised lymph node

Hi everyone,

Back in Oct 2022 I was diagnosed with stage 1A melanoma in my left leg, had a WLE which thankfully came back all clear. I had my one year clear, sail off into the sunset discharge in Oct 2023 (me and the husband even went for a meal to celebrate) but of course I’m still religiously checking everything!

Today I have found a raised lymph node in my left groin, but it’s only something that I can really feel when I am stood up. I’ve been scouring everything online saying how to check these and most of the detailed articles say you should check these when lying down. When I am lay down I can’t feel it. I feel like I am driving myself crazy with worry here! I think I’ve been signed off now from dermatology so shouldn’t really be contacting my cancer nurse directly, but I will certainly try tomorrow.

I suppose I just want to know if anyone has experienced this and what their outcome was. Is it because of gravity and because I’m stood up prodding around - it isn’t the same on the right groin which is panicking me. Is the node just going to become more prominent?

I know it’s a shot in the dark and very specific, but any response would be appreciated. My head is in turmoil.

thanks in advance! x

  • Hello EmW89

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lymph node that has given you some concerns.

Hopefully since you posted on the forum you've been able to contact the dermatology nurse but if not then do give your GP a call next week. They will be able to arrange to check this for you and hopefully give you some reassurance on this node and some advice about to self check in the future.

I do hope you have some good news soon.

    Best wishes,
