Supply of Letrazole

Hi please can anyone let me know if they are having difficulty in sourcing Letrazole from their pharmacies? Apparently problems with supplies

  • Hi, when I went to collect my Letrozole repeat prescription 2 weeks ago from my local pharmacy I was told that they didn't have any in stock, and their supplier didn't have any stock, and they didn't know when they would get some. I was advised to try other local pharmacies and I tried four - three did not have any Letrozole in stock at all, and one did but it was not my usual brand. I then travelled a bit further afield to a larger pharmacy and luckily they had some of my normal brand in stock but I was panicking for a while! I had an appointment with my oncologist yesterday and mentioned this to her and she said that several other patients had said the same thing recently but nothing had been communicated to their team about any supply issues. It was suggested that in an emergency they could possibly arrange to have some issued from the hospital pharmacy, dependent on their stock levels. I'm not sure if the supply problem is widespread, or just in some areas (I'm in London), but I always request my repeat prescription about 2 weeks before it is needed so had time to find some. Hope this helps.

  • Hi coffeecup7, not seen problems in Scotland yet. I have been given several different brands, as this would depend on what the GP has written on the script. Like you I get my repeat tablets 2 weeks early. Thankyou for alerting to a possible problem.

  • Oh God, really? Am in London too and due to get another 2 month script for more. Had nothing but problems getting same brand each time, now you're saying could be lucky to get any! Better call GP first thing and see what the score is.

  • Hi   I haven't said that anyone 'could be lucky to get any Letrozole', I've just posted my own experience in reply to the post by  . Different pharmacies use different suppliers so there may just be some supply problems with a specific supplier. It's always a good idea not to wait until the last minute to order a repeat prescription (I order mine via the NHS app) but it's probably best to speak to your pharmacy first as the GP won't know what they have or haven't got in stock at the moment. London is a big place, and although some smaller independent chemists near me didn't have stock, as I said in my post I did find some at a larger pharmacy (of a national chemist chain, and still in London), who said that they had lots of Letrozole in stock.

  • I am not fit enough - nor should I have to - to go traipsing around the whole of London.

As expected, usual chemist didn't have and now been to 4 others with no luck. Will just stop taking it. It is wrecking my vision anyway that I now have because of it and require urgent appointment at the eye hospital about.

  • Ladies

I’m on tamoxifen when I read your thread you say you like a certain brand , for this I asked my GP to put my particular brand on the actual prescription and the chemist hsve to then give you that brand don’t suffer speak to zGP

  • Hi ISABEEBEE,

Our cancer nurses have had a number of enquiries from people having difficulty getting their letrozole prescriptions filled.  As we understand it this issue should resolve very soon. I realise you have already spoken to four pharmacies.  But  but We would suggest trying a number of different pharmacies including smaller independent pharmacies  if you usual one is unable to help you. You should speak to your doctor before you decide to stop taking it.

    I hope this helps,
