Mum may have lung cancer, any advice

Hi,

Thought I’d give this a go! Mum been in hospital 4 weeks with pneumonia. They found a mass on lung. Already has blood cancer. Doctors have done ct scan, chest x ray and are wanting to do an EBUS. They seem pretty certain it’s cancer, even introduced her to a cancer nurse and palliative care nurse. She is in immense pain and discomfort even though she’s on a high dose of oramorph. Any advice?

  • Hello Sheffdaug1172

I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has been in hospital these past few weeks and that following some investigations she's now faced with a possible diagnosis of lung cancer. It's understandable that you may be feeling worried and have some questions about her treatment.

It's good to hear that she has been referred to the specialist nurses. Do contact them to let them know that you're worried about Mum and her pain management in particular. There may be other pain relief options available to her but this will need to be assessed and prescribed by the team caring for her at the moment. Hopefully they will be able to improve things for her soon.

If you want to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can.

Sending you both my best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Sorry to hear this. I also had pneumonia year before I was diagnosed with lung cancer. There is lots of trials out there. Your mum could enquire about. I wish your mum all the best.she will get through this.
