Sore fingers from chemotherapy

Hi, I finished my last round of chemo in March, since then my finger nails have gone a yellowish colour and they are so very sore. I wasn't told that chemo could do this. Has anybody else had this after chemo and is there anyone who could tell me what I could use on my finger nails to make them less sore. I hope they are not going to be like this for long as I just cant cope with them being so sore.

Hope somebody can help give me some advice,

Thanks

  • Hi I just googled this out of interest ,and it says its quite common but that you may need an antibotic or antifungal cream so I would see youe GP .

  • Hi Clare, after completing chemo my nails started getting very thick underneath and some looked like they were lifting off the nail bed. I found a product called Polybalm that I used everyday. I don't know if it helped or if my nails would have got better anyway, but I'm glad I used it, even if it was quite expensive. Four months on, my nails are almost back to normal. My fingertips were a bit tender at first, but not really painful. I'm sorry that you are suffering with yours and hope you can find some relief. Best wishes, Amy x

  • Hi

I used polybalm on my nails, which I bought myself - I was one of the few in the chemo unit who did not have nail damage - it was tested in a medical study so should be given free to every one - such a shame
