What does palliative chemo consist of are you as poorly as with chemo for primary cancer or is it more gentle

  • Hello Oldlob and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I noticed you have some questions about palliative chemotherapy so I just wanted to share some information we have on our website about palliative treatment.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Oldlob

18 months ago, I had abdominal surgery to remove most of my colon & an omentectomy as a result of colorectal & peritoneal cancer.

I have secondary tumours in my liver & right lung and since January 22, I've been on palliative chemo consisting of Pamatumamab, Irinotecan and 5FU/Flourouracil every 2 weeks. So, to date that's 36 rounds of chemo.

Physically & physiologically, I'm fine and able to live as normal a life as my health allows. There are side effects, but you learn to notice the symptoms and manage your day accordingly. Once you've cracked that, palliative treatment is not a problem.
