I am so sorry to heara bout this diagnosis and the fact that your FIL is not fit enough to undergo surgery. It is good news that there is no spread. It is impossible to say how quickly this is likely to spread, as it will vary from individual to individual.

There are other treatment options such as radiotherapy, chemo or drug trials. This can help to contain the cancer. A lot will depend on what his consultant feels about his general health and whether or not he is fit enough to undergo any of these options.

Help him to draw up a list of any questions you both have and take these with you to his consultation. I sincerely hope that he will be able to accept some form of treatment.
