Back and hip pain after BCG treatment. Finding things tough

I have just finished my six weeks BCG treatment's and had a problem just after my fifth installation of BCG I started to get back and hip pain but I could cope with it using paracetamol I mentioned this to my nurse just before my sixth installation and asked me if I wanted to continue, I said I would as I was coping on.

This was a wednesday by Saturday I couldn't walk I was in so much back pain and hip pain on Sunday I nearly called 111 but hung on till Monday to see my local doctor he gave me 1 months supply of naproxen 250mg twice a day I'm over half way through my back pain has eased but after a while walking I've got to stop and sit .

Other problems I get hot sweat's,arm and leg weakness.

I'm 72 year old male with high grade CIS and recurrent prostate cancer having six monthly injections of decapeptyl and right hip replacement.

  • Hello Mall and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear you have been in so much pain. You did well to see your doctor about this and I am glad the pain has eased a little. Poor you I am so sorry to hear you are having all these issues, the hot sweats and arm and leg weakness. Make sure you mention this to your doctor if you haven't done so already.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in a similar place before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call if there is anything you would like to talk through with them.

I hope that things improve for you soon and that you also get the other issues looked into.
