Safe Hair Products - TC Chemo

Hello all, new poster so hoping everyone is safe and doing well.

My wife is currently just started her TC Chemo. A couple of questions we can't seem to find the answers to. What type of hair products can she use, we know shampoo should be PH, but can she use other types, such as protein spray? Also any tips for somebody who spends four hours a day straitening their hair, who now has shorter (naturally curlier hair) to try to keep is less 'frizzy' given the prohibition on hair tools!

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello TinyYoda,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope that you will hear from other members' hair care tips - many have gone through chemotherapy treatment before and I am sure they will have great suggestions for you.

As for hair products your wife could use, it might be worth checking with her medical team, in particular you could ask them whether it's ok for her to use the spray you mentioned. You are right though to check with her specialist before using the products.

You might be interested too in having a look at our Cancer Care collection which has a range of products which are designed to help get through treatment and recovery. There is a skin, body and hair care section and you will find a couple of hair and scalp products on this page. I noticed that the description in the shampoo mentions that the added olive oil is meant to help straighten hair and reduce frizzing.

I hope this helps and I will now let members of our community who have been through chemotherapy treatment before come and share their best hair tips with you.

Best wishes to you and your wife. I hope that the chemotherapy treatment is going well for her.
