Restarting exercise post breast surgery

Since January I have had a therapeutic mammoplasty and subsequent re-excision as margins weren't clear. No lymph node surgery and I have no loss of mobility in my arm.  Last surgery was 3 weeks ago. I won't get my results until start of May (7 weeks post surgery )

As someone who usually exercises I am eager to get back to routine.  I have walked daily and started back on a watt bike this week (sitting up and not holding the handlebars).  I would like to restart yoga class next week (4 weeks post surgery). Has anyone got any tips for getting back, poses to be very careful with etc?

thanks

  • Hi SL51

It sounds like your recovery from the surgeries is progressing smoothly which is great to hear.

If you have a chance to just check in with the breast nurse before getting back to your yoga classes that probably would be a good idea but I think the important thing to remember is to listen to your body and not expect too much when you do go back to your first class. Make sure you chat with your instructor beforehand so that they can talk to you about any adaptations you might want to make during the session.

I did find this article on the Breast Cancer Now website which hopefully you may find helpful.

I hope that you're able to get back to your classes soon.

    Best wishes,
