I have only just started treatment and had one round, im just wondering how long is took for others hair to start thinning/falling out? My scalp already feels tender to touch. Any tips welcome :)

  • My hair star to fooling after 3 weeks not too much I'm verging cooldcap

  • Hi Abby

my hair took about 3-4 weeks to start falling out noticeably - I got to the point where I was getting my hopes up that it wouldn't

not to worry though it will grow back :)

  • Thank you! I have been referred for a wig already so im hoping that will be here before then because i'll need to learn how to properly wear it

  • My doctor advised against a cool cap unfortunately as I read those can help but just hoping my wig is here in time

  • Hi Abby

I had EC chemo to start with and my hair started falling on day 17. My friend's was day 19. So it's probably there or thereabouts. But mine didn't all fall out in one go. It was a few weeks before it became noticeable, but everyone is different. I finished 7 cycles of chemo mid-January and I still have a few wispy strands that I just shaved off yesterday.

I'm writing a blog if you'd be interested

  • Hi Abby. My hair started falling out after 3 weeks, initially just a few strands and then was shedding lumps of hair. I did use the cold cap with my first 4 sessions (out of 16) but I was unable to tolerate it any longer so I stopped with the cold cap. It took me about 3 months after starting chemo to bravely face having my head shaved ( I kept cancelling my salon appointment). However, I finally did have my hair shaved, and it was the most liberating experience. Mind you, the hairdresser who shaved my head was very nice, understaning and very supportive. My hair has started to grow back, slightly curly at the ends and I used to have very long straight hair. I really don't mind if my hair is a bit all over the place at present, waiting for it to grow more and will then have a pixie cut ( this is going to be a new hair do for me, looking forward.)

I used gentle shampoos and conditioner free from sulphates, paraben). When my hair strted growing back, I used jojoba oil with few drops of rosemary oil. If you have not done so yet, I suggest you attend the "Look Good Feel Better" class on Hair loss. I did mine virtually and it was very helpful with a lot of tips.

Wishing you all the best on your treatment. Sending you lots of good energy and  positive vibes.
