Recovery from Diep surgery advice please!

I am having right breast Diep surgery soon, has anyone any views on reclining chairs? I'm wondering if I should beg borrow or steal one for when I am recovering at home. Maybe even to sleep in? As I believe getting up from chairs and beds may be difficult? And also sleeping on back rather than side. Any views?

  • Hello Silverdays

Recovery following an operation is very individual and will vary depending on your general health at the time of the surgery. Hopefully things will be straightforward for you and in the days and weeks following your reconstruction you'll go from strength to strength.

If, whilst you're in the hospital after the surgery, you're concerned about moving around in the bed or getting in and out of a chair then do speak to the physiotherapy team. I'm sure they will be able to give you some general advice to help make things easier. If necessary they can always ask the ward occupational therapist to chat with you about any equipment aids that may be appropriate.

Hopefully, in the meantime, someone who has had DIEP surgery will reply to share their experiences with you.

I wish you well with your surgery Silverdays.

    Best wishes,
