Offer of Immunotherapy only to be taken away

Hi

my husband has oesophageal cancer and unfortunately precisely his markers meant that he wasn't offered immunotherapy.  Then on our last visit to the oncologist he came in all smiles saying that there was good news and there was now an immunotherapy that he is suitable for, but the doctor said that funding was proving difficult to get, but he was trying.  Within an hour of telling us this news he came and found us and advised he couldn't get the funding.

To say we are deflated as my husband has had a particularly hard time.  He's been unsuitable for all other immunotherapy treatments, he has the mutant gene meaning he only gets a half dose of chemo because of the side effects would be too much, the first chemo gave him the equivalent of a heart attack, the other chemo gives him blood clots, they put him on blood thinners but the tumour bleeds because of the chemo, so he ends up collapsing because of a low blood count.

can we appeal against the decision to not give us funding?  If Chemo hasn't worked that's it for my husband, he will only have about 3 months left to live.

  • That seems so cruel.
You could try emailing your MP, copied to the Trust's Chief Exec, explaining your situation and asking how this decision could be reversed.
If that fails, you could try getting your local press involved.

Sorry I can't think of anything more useful.

    Good luck

    Dave
