Cooling cap

I recently have my first cycle with carboplatin and paclitaxel, i tried the cooling cap then. Im gonna have my 2nd cycle next week but having second thought on cooling cap as ive already lost almost 50% of my hair. Just wondering what is the success rate of cooling cap with TaxolCarbo combi treatment, as I can't decide if I continue with the cooling cap or not. Any feedback is much appreciated.
Thanks x

  • Hi Sm03,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. You might find some relevant discussions on here about the cooling cap by searching using the button in the blue bar above, although I'm not sure whether you'll get something specific to your treatment. You can also of course discuss options with your medical team when you next get the chance.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon, particularly if others have similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hello,

I didn't use the cap as I thought it was extra stress on myself. I had FEC chemo for breast cancer in 2020. I actually found it quite liberating losing my hair and looking back think of it as an experience. If 50% of your hair has fallen out then the cap is maybe not working as well as it should. I wore scarves and hats for a while but a short time after chemo is started growing back and I had a lovely head of curly which went straight as it grew longer.
    Best wishes

  • Not a big fan of the cooling cap I found the quicker your hair comes out the quicker it comes in and do you really want to spend more time in hospital.  PS this is the second time I have lost my hair
