MRI results

I have always had a bad back with disc degeneration from being young.

This past 15 months I was diagnosed with HER2 breast cancer and have undergone lumpectomy, chemo,  radiotherapy and having phesgo injections until March.

In August I rang the GP about by back not because anything had changed, but I felt it was time to do something about it. Due to my history he ordered an urgent MRI but said he was doing so as a precaution.  Had the scan mid October and was told would be reported on within 4 weeks. To be totally honest I totally forgot about it and wasn't overly worried as no news is good news.  Then on Saturday. . 24 weeks after it was requested urgently I received a notification in my hospital app to say a result was ready .. it was the scan. Still naively unworried I read about how buggered my discs were and right at the end it said one disc had low density so they couldn't rule out metastasis!! I now have to have another one to see if there are any changes from October. I work for the NHS but I am truly gobsmacked !

  • Hello LadyMD

I'm so sorry to hear about all that you've been dealing with and the delays that you've faced in getting this MRI report back. To now be left in limbo waiting to see if there are metastases or not will undoubtedly be a difficult time and hopefully you won't have to wait too long for this scan and results. If you're at all concerned about the length of time you're waiting then get in touch with the hospital PALS team and explain the situation. Their role is to help patients resolve concerns when using the NHS.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can to help you through this period.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
