scared breast cancer might come back

last year i had stage 3 breast cancer , in my left breast and lymph nodes 6 rounds chemo masectomy single . no radio yet as got infection , since weekend i had pain in right nipple and surrounding breast , saw dr moday she can feel thinking maybe small lymp but tunder and thickening so being refurred back to breast clinic

im scared

  • My wife had a similar diagnosis to yourself. Stage 3, grade 3 and 2 Lymph nodes. She had 2 tumours. The main one at 4.5cm, and one underneath it at 2.5cm. She did 7 Chemos. 4 EC and 3 Docetaxel. She also had 19 rounds of radiotherapy.

Luckily for her, her chemo obliterated the cancer, and she ended up getting a lumpectomy rather than the planed all along mastectomy. I won't lie, all the days blend into one, and I'd be lying if i said she finished chemo 6 months ago, but I think she did. Then had the op. She then had radiotherapy, which she finished around September. She's currently sleeping so I can't even ask her for specifics.

Anyway, before Christmas she felt something resembling a lump, and it was painful, and changed from before December to her appointment on the 11thJan with the breast clinic. We were really worried. Both the nurses and breast surgeon said pain is actually a good thing. Like a really good thing. So they weren't overly worried when she first called up and was told to wait around 2 weeks. Told they sounded more like oedemas or scar tissue. She got an ultrasound and they were oil cysts. Since her treatment and op, she ticks all the boxes for breast cancer. Inverted nipple, orange peal skin and thickening, and more obviously, the lumps. But none of it'ss cancer. Just left over nonsense from the op. She's going back in next week for the final part of her reconstruction surgery, so the nipple should be fixed too.

Oil cysts can happen after surgery or radio.

What I'm trying to say, the pain is a good thing. I know it's a worry as we have just been there ourselves.

  • thanks profbaw glad to hear your wife doing well x
