Seeking Positive Thoughts & Advice - RCC & Prostate Cancer

My husband has been diagnosed with Renal Call Carcinoma & Prostate Cancer in the last year.

The RCC tumour has been removed with no follow up treatment, but we are told he is on a 10 year journey until we can say he is free from it returning.

He has been advised active surveillance treatment for Prostate Cancer, given he is only 47 & in good health, but with 7 biopsies showing cancer, it seems odd.

I cant help but think that we are simply waiting for the inevitable (regular tests for both cancer streams). I dont know where we stand with requesting different treatments.... or if I'm being silly & this is OK.

Has anyone else had similar? New to this & appreciate any positive thoughts or advice. Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Bee,

I noticed you haven't had a reply just yet so I wanted to stop by and reassure you that your post has been seen and offer you a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat.

It's great to hear the RCC was removed successfully although I'm sorry for the anxiety the active surveillance of your husband's prostate cancer is causing.

If you're concerned, you could try getting a second opinion from a different doctor but you're welcome to talk through your options with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon as well but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Bee and wish you and your husband all the best moving forward.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thanks so much Steph, we have a session this afternoon to discuss treatment plans with hubbys consultant, which may help us both.

Thank you for the share of the cancer nurses number, I may very well contact them tomorrow to talk through any options we are given.

Thanks very mcuh, you getting in touch makes a huge difference
