Stage 4 breast cancer advice

Hi all,

my mother was recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer which has spread to her bones, liver and brain. She is doing really well at the moment and has started treatment. I'm keen to get feedback from anyone who's gone/going through similar as to what treatment/surgery etc worked well for you. Her oncologists are fantastic but I thought I would take some time to research myself and any positive stories/advice from anyone would be very much appreciated.

thank you in advance x

  • Hi Sdave1,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your mother, although it's good to hear she is currently doing well.

Hopefully this forum can be helpful for you in terms of hearing from others. My reply will boost your post, meaning a few more people should see it, so hopefully you'll get some more replies soon - particularly if others have any similar experience to share. HI Sdave,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear of your Mum's diagnosis and understand just how worrying this is. It is good to hear that she is keeping well at present. Can I ask what treatment she is having?

I am sorry that I do not have a positive storyto report. My own Mum had stage 4 breast cancer, which spread from her breast to her liver, lungs, bone and brain. That was 25 years ago and treatments have advanced considerably since then. I myself have had 2 bouts off breast cancer in the past 13 years and there was just no comparison between the diagnosis, treatment and after care which we've both experienced. I am happy to report that I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

I am so happy to hear that your Mum has a fantastic care team, as this can make all the difference. Each cancer is individual to the person who has it, as are their other health concerns. Her care team will create a bespoke treatment, especially tailored to her needs. If she has any problems with this, they can change it. Please put your faith in them to do the best that they can for your Mum.

This is a particularly hard time for you and any other family and friends. Try to concentrate your energies on seeing that she is as comfortable as possible, that all her medical and physical needs are met and that she knows how much she is loved. Time is so precious, so please try to make some happier memories with her while you can.

I am thinking of you both and hope that she continues to do well with her treatment.

Please keep in touch and let us know how she is getting on. We are always here for both of you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

I have just been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer - 3 weeks ago - after 8 years in remission.  Mine has spread to my bones - spine and hips.  I have just started on targetted therapy - so very early days for me.  I would be happy to have a further discussion with you and your mum - although you may prefer to communicate with people who have more experience.

Really glad to hear your mum is doing well so far.  I know how worrying it is for you both.

    Warmest wishes
