  • Hello NellieJC and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am sorry to hear you have experienced eye problems with Letrozole. Eye problems such as blurred vision, cataracts or irritation are indeed mentioned on the Letrozole page on our website. It might be worth talking to your medical team about this side effect and seeing whether they have any suggestions to improve these eye issues.

This page on the subject of "your eyes and cancer drugs" has a section on sore, dry eyes and also on watery eyes as well as tips for dealing with watery eyes which you might find useful.

I hope that this side effect improves soon and that you will hear from other forum members who have experienced this before as a side effect of taking Letrozole.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Nellie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your eyes whilst you are taking Letrozole. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years. I took Tamoxifen for the first year, then changed to Letrozole for six and a half years, after the second bout. I developed problems with my eyes after I had been taking the Letrozole for 2-3 years. I found that my eyes were very dry and my optician gave me drops to help with this. I also experienced the blurred vision and catarracts that Lucie mentions.

I had to have catarracts treated in both eyes and required further operations in both eyes, but am pleased to say that following laser surgery, my sight has been restored to 20-20 vision and I am back driving again. I feel so fortunate, as before that I had virtually no sight in one eye.

I did try different makes of Letrozole and this did help with some of the side-effects, but made no difference to my eyesight.

Are you sure that you are suffering from dry eye? When you mention that they are watering profusely, this sounds more like watery eyes. Mention this to your care team, GP or optician and see if they can suggest anything that could help you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
