After effects of BCG Treatment

Hi. I am 75 and like many, the first 6 treatments were free from side effects. I just had my 12th BCG  treatment and I struggled to retain the treatment for 2 hours and only managed 11/2 hours. It's good to hear from others who are experiencing increased side effects as the treatment progresses, at least it's not just me.

  • Hello Brian100847

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been struggling with some side effects of your BCG treatment. We know that many people find these become more intense as treatment progresses so I'm glad to hear that this has reassured you a little.

Do you have many more sessions left? Hopefully things will settle for you.

If you want to chat anything through with our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    Sending my best wishes,

  • Sorry I've only just seen your post, (having cancer problems with my husband and very worried)

I had 15 BCGs, the only way I could hold it for 2hr was to take to my bed as soon as I got home, I did a bit of turning to move the stuff around the bladder, then when I stood up a mad dash to the loo. Some people only have to hold it for 1hr so don't worry if you can't manage the 2hr. Are you having the 27?  I only had 15 as there was a shortage of it at the time. Anyhow I'm grade 3 pta, I've had 21 checkups and pleased to say all clear each time. I first went to the Doctors 10 years ago this month.  Good luck x

  • Hi, many thanks for sharing your experience. It's good to hear of successes and I will definitely try your method of retention after my next treatment.
