Weight loss after treatment, struggling

Hi all, as the title suggests I am really struggling with weight loss after treatment. I had 6 cycles of docetaxal and carboplatin, mastectomy and reconstruction, radiotherapy then 11 cycles of Kadcyla (TDM1). I am currently on Zoladex,  Examestane and 25mg of Sertraline.

I finished my Kadcyla treatment in July, 3 months ago and my weight has just continued to increase. I feel like every time I mention it to anyone medical they will tell me WHY it may have increased but not really advise if there is anything else I can do about it. I'm active and am running around after a nearly 2 year old all the time, I have a balanced diet and I am exercising. I never drink fizzy drinks, hardly ever any alcohol or sweets, chocolate, takeaways etc.  I've had all the booklets on healthy eating and been told countless times about things in  foods that may seem healthy but aren't etc. I've read all the booklets about portion control. I'm tired of been given the same info again and again and told why weight is an issue after breast cancer treatment and it's not the most important thing. I feel like I'm moving about constantly and not really eating much and what I am eating is healthy and balanced.

I'm just really miserable with my weight and feel very lost about what to do other than just skipping meals (which I know is not good). I am seeing my GP soon and will likely vent to them. I am just wondering if there is anything anyone has had success with?

Sorry for the vent, I just got weighed again today and it's gone up a lot and I just can't understand why.

  • Hi rmscj,

I can understand this getting you down, especially as it sounds like you have been working hard at it and also not receiving too much advice on what to potentially do to help.

It's good to hear you have an appointment with the GP coming up - I hope this is productive and that they're able to help.

You are also welcome to give our nurses a call if you'd like to talk things through. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Otherwise, hopefully you'll receive more replies here soon, especially if others have similar experience or advice to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
