Anyone refused chemo

Hi

Has anyone with hpv oral cancer refused the  chemo and only went ahead with the radiotherapy and had a successful outcome?

both mine and my wife's interests are all musical on some level. She is a professional singer and I am heavily involved with her sound setup etc. Mixing her backing tracks and adding backing vocals etc. I feel if this chemo destroys my voice and  hearing i fear my marriage likely won't last very long, as I wouldn't be interested in going to see any musical shows if I can't hear them.

I know how my wife ticks and she devotes her life to music. She will say its OK but long term I know it won't be so I'm trying to find alternative treatment.

Mild tinnitus is one thing but hearing loss and complete deafness is another thing.

Been told radio alone is 85% chance of cure so at thr moment that's what I'm going to go for regardless of what my oncologist says.

  • My friend has a different kind of cancer she has colon cancer she refused chemo then it spread to her liver so they put her on Immune boosting therapy and she seems to be doing well on it she also does a lot of other bits and bobs including diet, certain  music, etc etc ,she had cancer since 2019 her markers have gone down from 4,000 to about 15 ,I don't know much about it but that's what she tells me ,but I'm in no way recommending you refuse chemo I'm just answering your question.

  • Thanks , I've contacted a clinic who specialise in my type of cancer and say thr NHS are far too aggressive with their treatments for my type of cancer and it responds better than other cancers.

I'm sadly running out of time to make a decision. I hope I don't make the wrong one.

  • I hope you don't either ,its such a dilemma ,its like my sister she had breast cancer and she opted for just taking the lump out and then radiotherapy ,I remember saying if it was me I'd ask for a mastectomy as I'd be scared it would come back but she stuck with her plan and that was 16 years ago and she's never looked back ,whatever you decide I hope it goes well and that you make a full recovery ,treatments have really moved on even in the last few years so I'm sure you'll be fine whatever decision you make ,keep in touch and let us know how you get on ,best wishes .
