Essential thrombocythaemia & fatigue. Anyone else had this?

I was diagnosed with this over a year ago, and told to take an aspirin a day, I have had a few follow up phone consultations with haematology but when I say I am still having dizziness, ringing in the ears and lack of energy I keep being told this is nothing to do with this condition, also 3 different GP 's tell me this as well, I have basically been struggling on, but this fatigue is really annoying, I have cut down working a bit, but some days all I want to do is stay in bed  no matter how much I sleep I never feel refreshed, always drowsy, sluggish and not much get up and go, is this normal now? As it does not seem to be getting much better, I do not know anyone else who has this condition

  • Hello Smitchell

I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling with your health at the moment. It's really unfortunate that you feel the GP/specialists are not listening or supporting you at the moment.

Dizziness and fatigue are listed as symptoms of essential thrombocythemia on the Cancer Research UK website and if you look at the information on the Blood Cancer UK website you'll see that they also include ringing in the ears as a symptom. I can understand your frustration at not being heard when you're struggling with these symptoms and being dismissed with no proper follow-up.

We do have this active thread with lots of members who are living with ET have posted to share their experiences. I'd suggest posting a message on that thread and I'm sure that some of the members will reply to share their advice and support with you.

I wonder if you also might find it beneficial to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information, support, and advice that they can. I know many people have found them to be a very useful source of help. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that things can be improved for you soon.

    Best wishes,
