Recent kidney, prostate and bladder cancer

Three months ago my dear friend (70 year old male) had one kidney, prostate and bladder removed. He has managed the changes well but has been referred back to the hospital on four occasions due to constipation and severe sickness. On the last week long stay he was given an intravenous antibiotic drip for what they described as a kidney infection. Is there anything anyone could advise to prevent these occurrences? He is following all the advice and guidelines from the hospital to no avail. Any advice would be so welcome.

  • Hello Mojo52 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about the complications your friend suffered, the constipation and severe sickness and that he had to stay in hospital for a whole week on an intravenous drip for a kidney infection.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have suffered similar complications and that they will share their experience with you. You could perhaps get in touch with his medical team and ask them whether there is anything they could advise to prevent these occurrences? Do mention that he has been following all the advice and guidelines from the hospital but that this hasn't worked so far and if there is anything else they could suggest.

Feel free also to give our nurse helpline a call on this free number 0808 800 4040  if you would like to talk things through with them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that things improve for your friend soon.

    Best wishes,
