bladder wall thick after bcg

My husband has had 6 bcg and yesterday went for his bladder check to see if it was working. We were told that the bladder lining was thick so they took a biopsy. We are worried know because we were hoping they were going to say the cancer has gone and he could start his bcg top up in Oct. Any had this before. Please tell us your story.

  • The last time i had the covid jab i had a bad arm. It's the only time i have ever had the Maverna one. So i am hoping. it wont be that next Wednesday. Maybe your John had a bad reaction because of the therapy do you think. I should make sure you tell the consultant that he has had the covid jab. I went to get my knee injections and they wouldn't do it as i had had the covid jab 2 days before and i had to wait 2 week before i could get the injections. When we saw the consultant for the first time i April  and he had told us Ronnie had bladder cancer and about the cancer cells in the urine round the ureter i blurted out " is he going to die" the consultant said well where all going to die arnte we. What sort of an answer was that to 2 old people that he must have known were so worried.. No bedside manner. What a nob. You do right to take the pad and pen i will be doing that the next time because i will be ready for it this time. Hoovering is Ronnie's job i just haven't got the strength these days.

  • Hi Celia i don't know what to make of Ronnie all of a sudden loosing more scabs after been clear for 9 days. I don't know if this is normal or not after been so long before the last episode.I think i will give it a couple of days and see if it settles down again.

  • Cant believe  I've done post and lost it Good meeting said my piece and was told that no way had he given up on John Sorry if he gave that impression

Was impressed with how well John looked and said keep up the cycling

Blood tests to check  kidney function isnt any worse and another ct scan to have a look at ureter before he goes in to change the stent He will laser away anything he sees he isnt happy with Also taking about another course of mitomycin to keep things in check So feeling bit happier have to confirm date with secretary but looking st 21st Nov after our holiday to celebrate John's 80th and before we go 12th Dec for Christmas

He said again it's his opinion that it is very slow growing and the tiny patch he took away had probably been there for about 2 years

    Hope Ronnie's bleeding has stopped

  • What great news and you see there is something they can do about the ureter. It makes me feel better to know if there is anything in Ronnies ureter then maybe they can do something for him. If we don't get the same feedback when we see the main man i will be asking you for your consultants telephone number. So did they say the bladder was clear as well ?. Where you going for your holls. Ronnies pee cleared over night thank god. I am so pleased for your John i hope he will be able to stand more of the therapy. if he has to have it.

    Take care till next time

  • So why did he have the mitomycin in the first place. ?

  • John had one dose of mitomycin into his bladder 6 years ago after his 2nd turbt and before he started bcg His bladder was clear from the first course of bcg but he had to continue to make sure it didnt recur

This course of mitomycin was put into the bladder in the hope it would also be absorbed into the ureter to kill any cancer cells there The consultant removed all he could see the mitomycin was in the hope of killing any left behind and maybe stopping any recurrence This is why if he finds cancer gone or only small patch he recommends another course x
