Heavy bleeding from cervical cancer

Hey,

I have stage IIIc cervical cancer, I'm having really heavy bleeds with quite big clots/flesh (not sure what it is). Sometimes it pours out of me which obviously then makes me very dizzy.

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this,  whether it's normal or if I should be concerned?

I've obviously experienced bleeds prior but since Friday they have been considerably heavier. Also I haven't started treatment yet if that makes any difference?

Thank you x

  • Hello Hollybean and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry you've been experiencing heavy bleeding. It's a side effect that can often occur during treatment. You should make the medical team aware of this and any other side effects, if you haven't already. I'm sure other Cancer Chat members can offer their perspective, but if you'd like to read more on side effects, according to the treatment you had, you can here.

If you ever need to speak to someone, our team of cancer nurses are available on the freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines are open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

    I hope this help,

  • Hi, i recently finished my treatment for cervical cancer. Prior to the treatment starting and before i even knew i had cervical cancer was because of heavy bleeding which gradually became heavier and heavier until one day i hemorrhaged in the bathtub. I had the mass removed and then after started radiotherapy and chemo. After the mass was removed the bleeding (the bright red resh blood bleeding) and i only had very light bleeding which was the residue left behind from the surgery.

Im sure your oncologist will review your condition before starting treatment and as the treatment progresses the mass will get smaller and smaller and the bleeding will eventually stop

  • Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with cervical cancer… can I ask about the treatment you had? How did you feel? Has anything changed? Did you have chemo then radiotherapy? Sorry if it’s rude to ask, I’m just a bit scared. I have two young children and want to be the best mum I can be and I’m terrified

  • Hi Izzy, ofcourse i will be ahppy to share my experience. I had radiotherapy everyday for 5 weeks and chemotherapy schedules once a week but i got ill on the 3rd cycle of chemo and my neautrophils dropped so the doctors decided to cancel the remaining 2 chemo sessions, and 2 brachyherapy sessions twice after the 5 weeks of radiothrrapy. Praise to God it was much easier than i thought and thr most stressful thing but was actually the travelling back and forth each day. The radiotherapy was painless and the Chemo was ok but only used to boost the affects of the radiotherapy so didnt affect the overall plan. Brachytherapy was a bit unconfortable but was only twice. I eas actually diagnosed while pregnant and the other 3 kids i have are all below 8 so i can totally relate. You will be fine and it will be over before you know it.

Im sorry to hear that you are seeing symptoms again, but you are doing the right thing to get it checked out.

You should still be on the the schedule to get checks every 3 months right? Did the symptoms come up after your last check?

Also, did you start HRT after you completed your treatment as ive read that sometimes causes bleeding (if thats the symptom you have been having)? I am waiting to be contacted by menopause specialist about getting strated but im a bit nervous about it because one of the side affects is cancer!

All the best for your check up tomorrow, you will be in my prayers!
