Blind-sided by a song - survivor guilt?

I was blind-sided by this song a few minutes ago. It was a track on an album my wife put on while we were finishing our meal - an old favourite, I just wasn't prepared for it.
The final line goes out to all of us who are still here against all the odds but it did help me remember friends like Max who aren't here to share the moment. Bitter sweet, to say the least.

  • Hi Davek,

Good. to see you still trucking on.

I know what you mean about 'trigger songs' . This one isn't for me, but boy oh boy

    Days - the Kinks- I filled a reservoir , couldn't stop balling.

My uncle recently checked out- long illness, Parkinson's, but at his funeral he insisted ( before hand of course ) that Steppenwolf- born to be wild was played and when the button was pressed at the crem, he had played ,get this - Fire, the crazy world of Authur Brown (:

I'll never be able to hear those songs again without thinking of him and cracking not a tear, but a very large smile.

    Keep that faith

    Hilts

  • I know what you mean.  Songs can trigger powerful emotions in all of us.  Whenever I hear Gladys Knight and The Pips singing "Neither One Of Us" I can't stop crying.  This song makes me think of my mum and dad, both of them died many years ago.  They were divorced when I was a teenager, and deep down I am convinced that they still loved each other.  My Mum died first and when my Dad was told the news, I heard that he broke down and sobbed.
