Hormone Therapy for Prostrate Cancer

I am still near the beginning of Hormone Therapy and suffering badly with the effects....really awful. My treatment or monitering only, is being now discussed as the two Urologists had different opnions. My GP has yet to comment.

Anyway would welcome other peoples experience of the hormone therapy as I am hoping my experience of it is not just soley mine?

  • Hi, I do sympathize with you. I had two years on hormone therapy and suffered from hot flushes ect. But i turned it into a competition between me and my wife as to who would have the most and i won hands down. I also gained a lot of weight which i have sruggled to lose.

Yes there is a bad side to the treatment but even before I stared radiotherapy (I had 37 treatments) it had brought my PSA down from a high of 70 to 3.18. I truely believe that together with the radiotherapy it saved my life. So my overall experiance has been a good one and was one worth persevering with. This was several years go and my PSA is still very low so I consider myself to have been very lucky.

You dont say what the effects are

I wish you all the best on your journey and please stay in contact, Brian

  • Hi Brian

I really appreciate your response. Thanks

My problem is I am 77 and never been ill and so don't know how to cope with knowing I have Cancer....sounds daft but then with the Hormone Therapy on top its driven me into doom and gloom. My mind seems to be continously wondering and questioning everthing I have done, about to do or didnt do!  I then seem to go into a bit of a spiral and it takes me a while to talk myself round. This is all so unlike me as I have always managed to put things in boxes and deal with it when I was ready.

I have low grade cancer and my original Urologist recommende Radiotherap and so Hormone treatment started almost straight away whereas now a Urologist at the hospital they carry out the Radiothereap said he would recomment instaed monitoring as my PSA count has been fairly constant barring the last couple of times when it went up by a 3 counts!

So I am now waiting to talk with the original Urologist to see if he agrees as well as my GP. If they do then I would not have had this Hormone Therapy...sods law!

Anyway it is what it is and I need to work on these side affects asap before it drives me nuts.

Hope the foregoing isn't too gloomy?

Hope to hear from you again.

    Regards

    Holger
