Vision problems

Hi,

I've been on letrozole for 15 months and, along with the more common side effects, I seem to have developed some problem with my right eye (not sure it's to do with the letrozole)   Has anyone else experienced any sight/vision problems?

Thank you

  • Welcome to the forum C00kiedog although I'm sorry about the problems you've been having with your right eye.

As you can see on our website, eye problems such as blurred vision, cataracts or irritation is one of the rarer side effects that can occur from taking letrozole so it is possible this may be causing the issues you're having at the moment. If you haven't done so already do let your GP/cancer team know as they may be able to help.

Hopefully some of our members who have also experienced this side effect will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • I started letrozole September 22 and have been experiencing blurred vision in my right eye, usually when I wake up for a short while. Its getting more frequent now.  I have mentioned it to the nurses when I go for my herceptin jabs. Nothing said though.

  • Hello cookiedog, I understand your anxiety about letrazole. I have been taking it for 4 months now and only once had visual occurance. When writing noticed parts of words missing. You have not described what happens?? Now my mouth is on fire & have decided to persevere, but take it in the evening ,bit more tolerable then. I eat ice lollies & cut fruit to help with taste.hope things improve. Pip

  • I would advise anyone taking letrozole to have an eye test - a standard optician check will suffice - to check your eye pressure.

I have had minor vision problems for some  years so have 3 monthly hospital eye tests. Never had any problems with high pressure in eye.

5 months after being on letrozole, have had an alarming rise in pressure, above normal range. This ocular hypertension is symptom free but a forerunner to glaucoma so important to keep on top of.

Stopped letrozole for 3 weeks, another eye test - pressure back to normal! I don't think that's a coincidence. Leaves me in a quandary as to what to do now!

But as I said, have an eye test whether or not having any visual problems.

  • Hi COOKiedog,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing eye problems since starting Letrozole. I guess that it's impossible to say whether this is associated with Letrozole or not, but you should definitely get it checked out.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years ago. I took Tamoxifen for a year  after the first bout. I then deleloped a second cancer in the same breast and took Letrozole for 6 and a half years. I had a lot of problems with my eyes in that time.

What symptoms are you noticing with your right eye?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi I've been taking letrazole now now just over a year and experience a lot of watering of eyes especially in extreme cold or hot weather are you same x

  • Hi Pigginheck.

I stopped taking Letrozole in July 2017. Most people have trouble with watery eyes in extremes of weather. I can't say that I noticed any more wateriness than usual. My eyes were extra dry and I was given drops to try and combat this. Have a word with your optician or GP and see if they have any suggestions to help with this.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
