Chemo - struggling - stage 4 HER 2 + Help and Advice needed

I am supporting my mum who is nearly half way through chemo. Mum has not been too bad with the chemo compared to wgat some people experience,  yet the hair loss has began. Mum shared with me today that she doesn't want to cause worry and she isn't going to continue with treatment. Mum is all about animals so doesn't really talk to others about her diagnosis or read the forums. I said to mum I would support her decision. Yet thanks to you all on this forum, I was able to share your positivity, experiences and how much hope there is and success with treatment now and the potential for the future.  Also as well, we are nearly half way through - 12 sessions and we're on number 5. Mum was in a much better place when I left and we are going to get a wig. Yet I wanted to ask if there is any other advice or help you would share that I could help mum. Thank you for all of your help on this forum - I will be endlessly grateful xx

  • Hello.  I can understand how your mum feels.  About half-way through my chemo I felt like giving up, but I stuck with it and before I knew it, the chemo was finished.  I bought myself some scarves, turbans and hats when I lost my hair, Amazon do a very good range, they are very stylish and they look nice.  I bought a wig, but to be honest, I found it very uncomfortable and too hot to wear.  Like your mum, I also Love Animals, but just by chance I came across this forum and I am glad I did because at the time I was going through a very depressed phase.  There are some real nice folks on here, and the thing is, you don't need to explain how you are feeling, because everyone on here is in the same boat, i.e. they have cancer themselves, or they have had it in the past or they are caring for someone with this disease.  People who have not walked the cancer path are often sympathetic, but only those who have first hand experience of it can truly understand.  Anyway, good luck to you and your mum, and best wishes, Violet, x

  • Hello well I was also diagnosed with her2+ I had a 6 months of chemo, then I had the op after radiotherapy then another 6 months of chemo, now I can say I'm cancer free,it's not always doom and gloom and with the treatment your mum with beat this, please tell her to carry on with the treatment I know it's a hard slog with it all, some days you can have enough of it all,but she had to keep strong and think positive, wigs ar the moment are great you can find them online, just think she can be a brunette one day and the next a blonde.take care x

  • Violet I can't thank you enough. We've now ordered some bits from Amazon and mum has said she knows she has to carry on. Sharing with her, your experience , really helped her. I will keep persuading her to join until then, I will do my best to help.
