Ureter cancer now spread to bladder

Ureter tumour removed July 2021. Follow up chemotherapy from November 2021 to January 2022.

CAT scan clear.

Had check up cystoscopy last week and discovered three tumours in bladder.

Consultant planning to shave these off next week.

Very disappointed with current situation as chemotherapy was based on a successful trial.

Wondering what other surprises could show up in different locations.

  • Have great holiday that is one of the best places ever and Ronnie and me have been there lots of times.

After living in Spain for 5 years sadly we wont be flying any more we both cant stand the hassle.

Let us know how your meeting went with the consultant.

  • Hi, just got back from the hospital and Ronnie couldnt have his second BCG because of a urin infection which was caused by last weeks BCG. So left a sample to see what antibiotics to be given. Said it would be another 2 weeks before he could continue with the BCG.

I also asked about what she thought would happen if his ct scan came back with a tumer in his Ureter. She said they could not take the tumer out because the lineing of the Ureter was too thin and it would leave an hole and that could cause any cells to escape and spread. So she said after the 6 BCG and it is a malignant tumer, which they think it is, he would have to have the kidney out and the Ureter x a bit of his bladder which they call a cuff. She was quite optimistic that the BCG would clear the bladder so that was something to cling to. But i have to be honest i just burst out crieing about his kidney getting taken out because there's nothing wrong with it.

Anyway we will get through it together like we always do.

    Take care both of you

  • I do know urine infections are sometimes triggered bu bcg but it is very successful in treating bladder cancer even the high grade carcinoma  in situ which husband had

We were told same about the ureter but I understand its possible to remove  tumour with cryotherapy or laser Problem  is it returns which means it will eventually  escape unless the kidney and ureter are removed Unfortunately my husband ha the tumour on the side where his kidney functions at 80% due to previous kidney stones his orber kidney only functions at 20% so removal  not an option Hopefully mdtwill have answers maybe chemo or radiographs

Like you we will get thro it together like we always have

Sending live and a hug I'm not looking forward to going home on Monday I have been able to put the situation out of my mind for quite a lot of our holiday

  • Hi,

I would like to add a few comments to your recent posts.

My consultant was able to remove a ureter tumour 8cm long. My understanding is that if the tumour is located close to the bladder then the affected area of the ureter is removed and a "new" section of ureter is made by creating a flap made from the bladder wall. It's called a Board flap.

Might be useful to discuss with your surgeon.

  • Hello, thanks for your advice. The problem my husband has he has bladder cancer which he is having BCG treatment at the moment. So i dont think they would offer him that sort of op from what would have been a cancer area.

    Thanks anyway
