Mum's ovarian cancer.

So my mum got diagnosed 3 weeks ago, main tumour had doubled in size in a week.  They've found that it has spread to other organs but not into them, it's sort of growing on the outside.

She had first chemo on Thursday, should be home on Tuesday with carers to assist her at home.

Anyone with experience is there anything we could do to make things easier.

My dad passed away with cancer 3 years ago, she saw his care every step of the way and I can tell that's having even more of an effect on her, little bit different as he had brain tumours that affected him in a different way

  • Hello Matt1901

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's recent diagnosis. Undoubtedly this will have been a difficult few weeks for you all. I hope that your Mum has coped ok with her first round of chemo.

It's good to know that a care package is being put in place to support your Mum when she comes home. Once she's home if you feel that she needs more support do let whoever is co-ordinating this know so that things can be reassessed.

It's understandable that your MUm may be struggling with everything that's happened/happening and that having cared for your Dad she will have some additional worries. Do encourage her to talk about things. If it's too difficult to talk with you then she can always call our team of nurses for some support. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

We do have some information on our website about supporting someone with cancer and hopefully some of our other members who have cared for loved ones will post to share their experiences with you.

Keep in touch and let us know how you're all getting on.

    Best wishes,
