Colon cancer periods and poo!

Hi so I am trying to get myself ready to call my consultants secretary  tomorrow to chase up my yearly colonoscopy check up. I'm worried though I'm overly worrying. I had colon cancer in 2019 and had a successful resection.Last week i notice blood on my stools. Now I was also on my period. Although they are never heavy I've never noticed menstrual blood on my stools before. How likely is this to have been the case? Hqve any of you had this? I don't know if I'm just going to be wasting time and get my colonoscopy and it all be fine. I certainly don't want to take the opportunity from someone else. How quickly could a cancer regrow? My colonoscopy last year showed a benign polyp that had appeared with 20 months. Could q recurrence grow that quickly in a colon? I though it took years? So many questions sorry I'm trying to talk myself out of having to get in touch x

  • I didn't phone. I got too scared to vocalise my fear that its back. Daft I know. Maybe tomorrow... it all so exhausting! Cheering you all on xx

  • Hello Petrolrainbow

Did you manage to get hold of the Consultant's secretary today? I do hope that you were able to get some response.

If you want to chat with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello again

I can see that our replies crossed.

It's really scary to think that you may have a recurrence to deal with. However it's also entirely possible that what you saw was related to your period. The only way you'll know is to reach out to someone for support.

Give your GP or Consultant, or our nurses a call tomorrow morning and hopefully, you'll have some reassurance very soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hiya Petrolrainbow,

I'm really sorry you're experiencing this and going through such a scary and difficult time. I send you lots of hugs Xx ️

It could be related to your period, but it's best to contact someone and get it checked out. It's always better to be safer than sorry. I know it can be really scary talking to someone about these things, I still struggle to do this with my CNS and team!!

What you could do is write down what you want to say before you make the call to GP or the nurses here, then you can almost read it like a script. I do this a lot and find it really helpful and a lot less stressful. It might be something you could try if you think it might help.

Hopefully you will be able to call tomorrow lovely Xx ️

Sending you lots of love and hugs,

    Love Jess xx

  • Thanks Jenn. I think I will ring he nurses tomorrow and take it from there. I don't want to waste anyone time but also don't want to be dragging my feet if I should be making  a fuss. X

  • Cheers Jess, appreciated. I'm in a really weird place of wanting to just ignore it qnd also wanting to get it ruled out! Meh makes me feel ill just thinking about going into the hospital ever again! X big loves out to you xx
