Support

Hi, my dad is recovering from surgery for lung cancer and I was wondering what anyone could suggest in relation to support for his emotional well-being, I don't know if he would benefit from talking to someone about how he feels in a way where it doesn't turn into a counselling seasion if that makes sense

  • Hello Jp51

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis. I hope that his recovery is progressing well.

If you have a local Maggie's centre then I'd certainly suggest getting in touch with them. They do have well-being support staff but lots of the centres also run a men's meeting where the gents can get together over a cuppa and talk. I don't know if this is something that might appeal to your Dad.

You could also have a look at the Asthma & Lung UK website as well as the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation to see what is happening with their support groups and services across the country.

It's also worth having a chat with your Dad's specialist nurse, GP, or the team who has been responsible for his care. They will be able to let you know about any local support groups/meetings that your Dad could access or arrange a referral if appropriate.

Alternatively, your Dad is very welcome to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they will be happy to chat with him and offer any support and reassurance that they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
