Problems with non hospital issued Tamoxifen

I have been on Tamoxifen for breast cancer for 2 years.  Over recent months I have suffered increasingly from sore joints, aching legs, cramps, hip issues etc.  I contacted the hospital team to discuss this and they have suggested that other people have also been reporting these issues and that they believe that there is an issue with the coating of certain brands of Tamoxifen.  They suggested that I asked for the same brand that I was prescribed by the hospital (records of which I do not have of course).  I am hoping they can provide me with details from the hospital pharmacy records.

Has anyone else come across this issue?  And does anyone know which brands are ok and which are not?

  • Hello KTM

I'm sorry to hear that you've been struggling recently with some side effects from the medication you've been taking.

We know from posts here on the forum that some women find that certain brands of medication suit them better than others but it really does seem to be trial and error. What works well for one may not work so well for another.

If you have a regular pharmacy that you use then it may be worth speaking with them to see if they have records of what brands you've been given recently and perhaps you can start by eliminating those from brands you try.

Hopefully, some of our ladies here on the forum who are taking tamoxifen will post to share what they've found works for them.

If things don't settle and improve, do get back in touch with your breast care team for some further advice and support.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
