In remission from endometrial cancer: am I depressed?

I am in remission from endometrial cancer had a radical hysterectomy and now I am wondering if I have gone and hit depression? Is this normal? I do not want to go out anywhere I just can't be bothered doing anything. I have always been strong had a Stroke at 40 had open heart surgery to get a metal valve at 50. 54 it was my year for cancer now don't get me wrong I have got through all with a laugh & a joke but now I just feel totally different. I wonder could it be depression has anyone else felt this way? Pam

  • Hello Pam,

You've been through a lot recently and depression can hit once you have gone through treatment and find yourself in remission from cancer. It sounds like when you were going through cancer treatment, you felt you had to be strong and got through it all and kept laughing and joking during those tough moments. And now you are in remission, perhaps you feel a little bit empty, like you can finally allow yourself to let go of your emotions and it can all be a bit overwhelming. I am sure many of our forum members will have felt the same way too and I hope that they will be along to share their experiences with you. The fact that you feel you have lost interest in doing anything or going anywhere may be an indication that you are feeling a bit depressed, or at least a little bit down and I think it would be a good idea to talk to your GP about it and I am sure they will be able to help you get over this. So do give your doctor a call when you can and explain in detail how you've been feeling, that you now feel totally different from before and have lost interest in going out or doing anything.

There is an interesting section on our website on depression you may wish to have a look at and which I hope you will find helpful.

I will now let our members come and share their stories with you. It helps to talk to others here who understand what you are going through. I hope you won't mind but I have slightly edited your title to make it more specific and hopefully attract relevant replies.

I hope you manage to talk to your doctor soon about this and that you feel better soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello

Thank you for replying to my question yes I do believe you are right and I was going to phone my Dr today but I have started spot bleeding!!! It's 8 months since my radical hysterectomy, I am going to see if the bleeding stops as I say just a small amount but don't know if this is normal, everything was taken away. Pam
