Effective Drug for TNBreast Cancer not given in UK

Hi everyone, I've devastatingly just found out I have Breast Cancer and am awaiting my first appointment with the Oncologist to see what my treatment options are.

I've been reading up on the various treatments so I have a bit of background info before I go and came across this...

A drug called Trodelvy is used to treat Triple Negative Breast Cancer, but although it is licenced it is not yet availabe on the NHS.  I don't yet know fully what type of Breast Cancer I have but it is awful to think that people with TNBC which as I understand is difficult to treat cannot access this drug.

Breast Cancer Now have set up a petition to try to get the drug available to patients in the UK, so I just wanted to post it here if that is OK so anyone who would like to can sign/write to their MP and hopefully speed up the process of making it available to patients in the UK.

As I understand TNBC was what Sarah Harding died of - so it is sad to think her and others may have benefitted from Trodelvy had it been available here.

If you go to BreastCancerNow.org and drop down the "get involved" menu you can click on Time for Trodelvy for all the info.

Best wishes everyone. Take good care.

  • It is pretty devastating to be diagnosed. But you already sound like a fighter Annette, assuming that's your name. And I strongly believe that a positive mental attitude is half the battle should you be blessed with one. It's great to hear you're sticking up for everyone who might benefit from certain drugs already but try not to panic please, your Oncologist will have lots of experience and will set out a treatment plan for you and explain it all better than I ever could.  Take one step at a time and a deep breath. And we're here to help, especially those with the same type of bc as you.

We're so very lucky to have cancer research and clinical trials, so many types of cancer though and each journey through it pretty much unique. But we can help to explain things to you and it really helps to hear from others who might be further through the journey, it's reassuring. Be careful what you read on the net, we probably all do it, but Google has a habit of throwing up worst case scenarios so trust your Oncologist who guides by experience. They know what they're doing. And stay strong ♥️

  • Thank you for your kind words, it's much appreciated, hopefully with enough signatures and contact with MP's Trodelvy can be approved for everyone, it's a real shame if some that need it cannot get it.

Yes a positive mental attitude can make all the difference. It's great to see so many doing well on here.

    Take care x

  • I just wanted to add that if anyone finds they cannot access this drug and they need to you can contact your MP personally and they may be able to help.

I found this below information from Macmillan about how to contact your MP if you need to speak to them regarding your Cancer care.
