Sore scalp during chemo

Anyone have any suggestions for reliving a sore, itcy scalp caused by chemotherapy? I've tried using a sensitive shampoo and adding conditioner to my shower routine but it's not made a difference. I'm guessing creams and shampoos for stuff like eczema won't help? Can you even put cream in your hair.

Will this stop once it's all fallen out?

Thanks!

  • Hello Marcus89

    I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some side effects of your treatment at the moment.

    I know from reading posts here on the forum that many people find that their scalp is sore as the hair starts to fall out during chemo.

    You might find it helpful to have a look at this information on the Macmillan website but I'd really encourage you to chat things through with your chemo nurses as they will be able to give you some advice and maybe recommend products based on your individual circumstances.

    Alternatively, you're welcome to call our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can.

    I hope things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

    My scalp itched when my hair was coming out. I lost all my hair after my first cycle of EC Chemotherapy and as it was spiky I had it shaved with an electric trimmer and it's been ok since (no itching). Before starting chemo I had excema on my scalp but strangely the Chemo or perhaps the lack of hair has cleared it up. I continue to use my excema products on my scalp;

    Alphosyl is a shampoo/conditioner

    Diprobase, emollient cream, used like a shower gel.

    I use both products in the shower to keep my head (and body) clean and moisturised.I

    get mine on prescription, but both are available for sale at chemists (try Boots)

    Love Lilyanne xx
