Have lived with cancer for 16 yrs now. Never give up

Hello all.  I ve been living with cancer ( first bowel then later lung) for 16 years.   Many operations, 3 rounds of radiotherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy etc etc.   no chemo, which I refused 16 years ago!

I think I must have had around 38/40 scans by now, the team have been wonderful.

I just wanted to say never give up, they can keep you going for years these days.  New treatments, targeted genetic therapy is becoming the norm.

chin up everyone!

  • It does thanks so much.  I'm guessing they will offer me that next but as I said, nobody knows where it can spread to next.....

just have to keep our heads up high all of us

  • What a lovely read...

    Best wishes to you

  • Hello Monkel,

thats some kind of feat and it would. come as no surprise that you could light up a room given the amount of scans you have had.

l would be very interested to know how active you are away from treatment and what you do with your life outside of a hospital.Between the periods of recovery are you able to pick up some of the strands of your previous life?.

l am seven years on from bowel cancer with metatastic spread to the liver, am an active crofter with cattle and sheep, and although l have given up the guesthouse, hostel and sub postoffice, l am on the go everyday and for long hours.l hit seven o this year but my appetite for life has increased ,not diminished as l reckon it owes me since l lost a few good years during surgery and chemo where l did not run to capacity, although l still kept my animals on just the same.We pulled each other through some hard times, but happy days now.

Lovely to read your positive post and hope to read more in the future, and good luck with round two twenty or what ever one you are now up to !!!!!!!,

                                                                               take care,

                                                                                                  David

                                                                                                                     Davi

  • Thankyou David how inspiring to read.  I think we are of a similar nature.  I'm 75 now, still very active although the XOOD has slowed me down with far less lung function. I spend as much time as possible gardening, am a rose fanatic and known as the Rose Queen in these parts, a Green part of North London surrounded by beauty.  Near Hampstead Heath.  I have been doing Pilates for over 20 years and continue with it 3/4 times per week/.  Fantastic for the breathing.   They chopped both lungs over the years but exercise is key.   On a good day I don't stop moving, active by nature.

my  prognosis is rubbish, but still I can't wait for the spring bulbs to poke through.......are you having treatment regarding the liver?

lovely to hear your story, long May it continue for you.

    shoukd read COPD
