Shielding during Chemo. Any advice on how to manage?

Hi all I have just finished treatment 3 of 6 cycle chemotherapy.  I started in early November and have been shielding due to Omicron. I get 7 to 10 days where I feel much better and am desperate to get out and to see people it's getting me down.  I see the odd friend who come when they haven't socialised and rest.  My husband hasn't been for a pint in this time for fear of bringing it home.  Any advice  Am I taking it to far? Can I go in a shop? Can I see more people? The chemo is hard enough but the loneliness is making it so much worse.  Can anyone tell me how they are managing this current Covid outbreak.  Thank you.

  • Hey!

I have completed 3 out of 6 of my chemo cycles also and this is a big worry of mine.  I have children who go to school and my eldest at work.  I don't isolate completely but do ensure that I take precautions (double mask, hand gel, distance etc) if I pop to the supermarket.  I limit my contact with people to a small circle, I am meeting my sister tomorrow and will see my Mum.  They are aware of the risks so are extra careful also.  Do you get out for walks etc?

Hope you are doing ok with the chemo?  Xx

  • Thank you so much for yr reply.  I haven't been in a shop or anyones house since I started.  Most of my friends at work so no one to go walking with often but I do go for a walk. I'd really enjoy a bit of shopping to break the day up and had planned to after the bust Christmas period but then along came Omicron. I am 21 day cycle and to be honest I'm only well enough one week of the three as the first 2 weeks after chemo I'm pretty rubbish.  Finding chemo hardcore.  I don't have any family apart from my son but only seeing him when he's not been out socialising.  Double mask is a good idea.  Glad I'm not the only one. Nit does make it much harder. thanks
