Advanced prostate Cancer and covid

My brother is being treated for advanced metatastic prostate cancer. He had 3 rounds of chemo and was due to have his 4th 23 Dec. They have paused his chemo as his bloods weren't quite right and they thought he might have infection, that was on 21 Dec. On 24 Dec he tested positive for covid. He hadn't been too bad but has been left with a nasty cough that sometimes leaves him a bit breathless. Just wondering if we should be taking him to get checked out. We don't know if it's is the cancer progressing or more to do with him having had covid. Due to having chemo he had been on steroids which we are not sure if he should continue to take as the chemo has stopped for now. He is not due to see oncologist until beginning of Feb. He rsng chemo nurse and Dr's when he tested positive but they have not been much help or in touch with him. Any advice would be great.

  • Hi Sue49,

I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties with your brother's situation and especially with not being able to get answers. It's really his doctor/specialist who will be best placed to advise, so perhaps try to call again if you can and at least you can hopefully get the answers you need regarding the steroids and any current symptoms he has.

If you'd like some initial advice, you are more than welcome to call one of our nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5), although please note it is unlikely will be able to give a medical opinion on your brother's situation, but it may be helpful to speak to someone nonetheless.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
