Referred for Diep reconstruction - any tips or advice?

Spoke to Consultant today and am being referred for Diep reconstruction on right breast masectomy . There are waiting lists so could be delayed for some time. Concerned about recovery and major surgery, how should I prepare myself for this as to fitness and health. Interested to hear other ladies stories....

    I hope some of our ladies will share their tips and advice on how to prepare for this surgery soon but in the meantime, you can find out more about DIEP reconstruction on our website. Breast Cancer Now also have some useful information but if you'd like to have a chat with one of our nurses about this, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    I went to a very informative event run by Restore the reconstruction charity. There were 2 specialist nurses and  6 ladies sharing their breast cancer stories. It made me feel very positive, I was worried about being an older lady but there was a lady there who had reconstruction at 74 with a very positive outcome. I have my first meet with the specialist surgeon on 4th March. There are waiting lists but it gives me plenty of time to prepare for the long surgery and hopefully the end of my cancer journey. Can never say for sure, but for me I believe I will feel more confident and whole again after living with a masectomy.
