Pain after LAR operation.

3 months ago i had a lower anteria resection where my rectum wss removed and colon attached 2 cm above anus. I developed an infection caused by a stomach bug whivh was cured by antibiotics. At the time fluid inside made me feel i wanted to go to toilet all the time. 3 months later i am still getting pain mainly in the daytime. Sometimes its hard to walk. Some times its an ache and sometimes burning. At rest its generaly okay or minor. Any ideas why i still get the pain and if it will go away. I do get the ocasional day or two when i feel good but it aleays comes back.

  • Hello Seanlitar

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the past 3 months. Not only have had you had to face major surgery but then to deal with an infection as well it's understandable that things are taking time to settle.

It's good to hear that you're getting times when the pain settles and hopefully as time goes on this will become more and more the norm.

It's natural to be anxious about recovery times. Try to keep in mind that your body has been through a lot in a relatively short space of time. Speak with your Consultant or clinical nurse specialist about your concerns. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance and advice about pain management.

Alternatively, you're welcome to chat things through with our team of nurses. The helpline is now closed for Christmas, but they will be back in the office on Wednesday 29th December and are available 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 if you'd like to chat with them. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

I hope things continue to improve for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thankyou, I will call the nurses when open which hopefully can give me an alternative opinion as I have to wait to see the consultant.
