New to the forum.

I'm glad I came across this forum...it's good to hear others thoughts as they go along this journey.I pray everyone is handling things as well as they can with the support of family & friends.

I have just had my 1st cycle of chemo after having a mastectomy & lymph nodes removed.....I'm on day 3 & thankfully feeling ok just a little tired.....trying to stay positive but can't help dreading that the nausea is on its way.....i realise everyone is different & may not suffer much but any advice on preparing for & handling the nausea would be well appreciated. I've started keeping a daily diary of how I will get along on this 1st cycle so I can compare as I go through each cycle. Love to everyone

  • Hi Merrymaid, I am new to this forum too.

I had 3 rounds of EC in July/August for metaplastic breast cancer but was given an antisickness pill with it - it was very effective for the first 3/4 days. No vomitting but I still felt nauseous so chewed on crystalized ginger at times, drank a lot of water and stuck to bland foods. I felt my symptoms gradually worsened with each cycle, 1st week tired, 2nd week worst for my stomach, 3rd week recovery. I think it all depends on what type of chemo you get. My tastebuds went awol and I went off curries, chinese and coffee. For the dry sore mouth I sucked a lot of mints (don't tell my dentist!) plus used biotene (there are other brands) toothpaste and mouthwash for dry mouth plus the gel at nighttime/overnight. I had a simple mastectomy 5 weeks ago and started Phesgo injections 2 days ago. For my nails I still use Polybalm - I can just see 3 white curves on some of my nails, 3 lines for 3 cycles.

I kept a diary too - from day 1 - just writing thoughts etc helped me though it all. My journey isn't over but I think I've been through the toughest part.

    Take care, Kaisa

  • Hi Kaisa...hope youre feeling as well as expected today....I just try to keep as positive as I can...I'm sure there will be days harder than others but it's good to be able to share some of our worries with each other...take care

    Hi Merrymaid,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your concerns re chemo. You should be prescribed anti-nausea tablets to stop the nausea. If these don't work , just tell the staff in the clinic, as there are other types of tablets which might be more effective for you.

I hope that it continues to go well for you. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
